Speaking to him, the player will learn that he was fired from the University for crafting "unorthodox" spells, which the player can learn more about in Midas' book Aurum Incantatem. In that book, the player will learn they need a set of ingredients to put into this container known as the "Aurum Reactor" to gain an item known as "Aurum Residue." When consumed, this will grant the player a specific spell based on the ingredients given.

The mod adds over 300 new spells of various effects and potencies, each one helping turn players into borderline demi-gods of magic. Among the best of these is " Midas Magic Spells of Aurum" by Xilver, an add-on to Oblivion's existing magic system that makes being a mage far more unique and rewarding. This is not helped by the spell-crafting system allowing the player to become ridiculously over-powered with just one or two similar spells fused together.Īs always with Bethesda games, modders have built upon and improved many of Oblivion's features and shortcomings that have not aged well in the past decade.
However, a lot of the spells still lead to the same end or have similar effects. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was one of Bethesda's breakthrough hits following the success of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Compared to its more popular younger brother Skyrim, Oblivion has a far more powerful and effective magic system with a wide variety of offensive, defensive and utility spells to fit any situation.
